So, you have bought the Xbox One and you’re having a good time. Finally, you can play the games you have been waiting for. You’re having fun with this console but you feel like something is missing. What could make the Xbox One better? Of course, your Bluetooth headset. Can you use a Bluetooth headset with Xbox One?
Well, you aren’t the only one that’s asking that question. That’s why I thought it would be a good idea to clear things up about Xbox One and Bluetooth headsets.
Does the Xbox One have Bluetooth
Unfortunately, the Xbox One does not support direct Bluetooth pairing. I don’t know why that is, Microsoft avoids answering that question. Of course, there must be a reason for this, but that doesn’t interest us right now.
You can only directly connect wired headsets. I wouldn’t say that you’re directly connecting the headset but Microsoft says it is so.
In order to connect the wired headset, you must use the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. This is a USB connection device that you insert into your Xbox Wireless Controller.
The Xbox One Headset Adapter has a 3.5 mm plug where you’ll be inserting the headset. That’s why I said it’s not exactly a direct connection. If you have headphones with a USB connection, you won’t need the Adapter.
Don’t lose hope though, there is a way to use your Bluetooth headset with Xbox One. Of course, Microsoft thought about it and didn’t completely eliminate Bluetooth connection.
We’ll talk about that later, first, let’s cover some other things. Keep reading for the answer you have been waiting for.
Can you use Beats as a headset on Xbox One
If you do, you already know the answer. Yes, I know that irritating feeling, I feel with you my friend. You should have no problems if you are using Wired Beats headphones. However, I guess most of you use wireless headphones.
You’ll still have to use the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. That’s where you’ll be connecting your Beats wireless headphones.
Insert the Adapter in the Xbox Wireless Controller. Then, connect the 3.5 mm jack in the Adapter and you should be good to go.
One more thing though, as you may know Microsoft and Apple are competitors. Apple owns Beats, and, Beats are best used with Apple products. So, don’t expect your headphones to be great with the Xbox One.
Stay focused, the important thing follows.
How to connect a wireless headset to Xbox One
Now, as I said, there’s a way to pair your Bluetooth headset with the Xbox One. It isn’t the most perfect solution, you’ll see for yourself.
In order to connect a wireless headset with Xbox One, you’ll need to buy additional equipment. Let’s see what that equipment is.
A Bluetooth receiver
Basically, a Bluetooth receiver is an adapter that uses the 3.5 mm jack for connection. It receives Bluetooth signal from other devices and transmits information to the paired device.
First, you’ll need to buy a Bluetooth adapter that is compatible with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. Any adapter that uses a 3.5 mm jack should do the trick, stay off knock offs.
Then, connect the Headset Adapter with the Xbox Wireless Controller. Insert the Bluetooth receiver in the 3.5 mm plug in the Headset Adapter.
That should do the trick, you can pair your Bluetooth headset with the Xbox controller now. Finally, you can properly enjoy your games.
However, another disappointing thing about this. The Bluetooth receiver will only work for game sounds. You’ll be able to use the headphones only for hearing sounds from the game you’re playing. If you want to use the chat, you won’t be able to.
Bluetooth receivers use a 3.5 mm jack that can only transmit output signals. The microphone on the headset will be useless with the receiver. So, if you want to talk with your mates while playing, a wired headset is the way to go.
Unfortunately, there isn’t any other way that you can solve the Bluetooth issue. Just wait for Microsoft to get tired of the complaints. Or, just wait for the next console.
If you’re thinking that a third-party controller that supports Bluetooth will solve this, you’re wrong. Xbox One doesn’t let third-party controllers allow Bluetooth pairing.
So, all hopes die here for you I guess. Be patient, maybe someone will come up with a solution. After all, using the Xbox One with wired headphones is not that bad. With the Headset Adapter, you still can move around and play from your couch.
Of course, there are some that subdued to this. They went with the wired headset but are still having trouble connecting, let’s talk about that.
Why won’t my headset work on Xbox One
If your headset isn’t working on Xbox One, don’t worry, we can solve this. Fortunately, this problem has a solution, unlike connecting the Bluetooth headset.
Your headset won’t work for a number of reasons. I’ll make sure to cover them all. I’ll feel bad if I don’t solve at least one of your problems.
So, how do you fix this problem?
Plugging and unplugging the headset
This is something most of you have tried already. It’s still worth mentioning though. You can forget the simple solution sometimes.
Try plugging and unplugging the headset and see if that works. You can do this several times if you like. Make sure the jack goes in properly and something isn’t in the way.
Plugging and unplugging the Stereo Headset Adapter
The headset may not be the issue. Sometimes the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter is the problem. So, unplugging it and plugging it again may fix this.
Make sure that you unplug your headset while you’re doing this. It’s just a safety measure, you eliminate the possibility of another error.
Now, this may sound absurd, but your headset may be muted. That’s why you aren’t hearing or transmitting any sounds.
Simply, check if the headset is muted from the headset’s control box. If it is, unmute it, that should solve your problems. If it isn’t, let’s move on.
Sound muted from Xbox One
Just to be sure, check if the sound volume is low on the Xbox. You can do this by opening Settings, then Device & Accessories. Select your controller and see if the sound is muted.
Is your headset working?
Sometimes, the problem isn’t with the Xbox, but with the headset. So, you need to make sure that your headset is working.
You can do this by using your headset with some other device. If they aren’t working with that device, you know what the problem is.
However, sometimes, the headset will experience problems only when connected to a certain controller. Something in the headset is stopping it from working.
The way to find if this is the issue is by using the headset with another controller. This may solve the problem for you.
Is your Xbox Wireless Controller working?
Now, there may be something wrong with your Xbox controller. Usually, the USB port for the Adapter is damaged.
You can easily find out if this is the problem. Just connect another headset to the controller and see if it’s working. If your controller is not working, every headset you’ll try will be no good.
Is your Stereo Headset Adapter damaged?
Unfortunately, the Adapter can be easily damaged. While your controller may survive some falls, the Adapter will not. That’s why it would be wise to eliminate this issue.
Simply, try another Adapter with the same controller and headset. If it’s working, you know what to do.
Is the chat sound muted?
Now, if you can hear game sounds but not your friends over the chat, the headset is okay. The problem is with the sound settings on your Xbox.
Check if the chat is muted. If it is, just unmute it and have fun. If not, keep reading.
Also, you may have muted certain users. This may lead you to believe that your headset isn’t working.
Go into Settings and open Account. You’ll see a Privacy & Online safety option, select it. Then, select Communicate with voice and text. You’ll see that you can select communicating with everybody or just your friends. Select everybody if that’s what led you to believe that your headset isn’t working.
Restart your Xbox One
There may be a problem with the software and restarting the Xbox will solve it. I guess you have tried this already, if not, do that immediately.
Keep everything up to date
Your headset may not be working because your firmware is not updated. So, updating your Xbox One may solve this.
You can do this by opening the Xbox Live. After signing in, you’ll see that you can update your Xbox from there. Make sure to install an update if needed.
Also, keep the Stereo Headset Adapter plugged in when updating. This will update your Adapter too.
If the offered solutions aren’t working, you may want to consider buying a new headset or controller. I’ve told you how to troubleshoot which device isn’t working. You can also call customer support.
Well, that’s about it, did you find a solution? I sure hope you did. Good luck and have fun.
